Over the past 40 years NonStop has evolved from tight proprietary hardware and software to a more open hardware design with open interfaces to software. Along this journey, hardware and software have together provided the fundamentals provided by a loosely couple operating system execute environment. The fact remains that the NonStop O/S is unique and has differentiation in the market. This session demonstrates a new way of looking at NonStop in the open software development world of IT that embraces, cloud microservices and serverless systems architectures. These IT trends are complementary and can be exploited with newer NonStop design and new hardware deployment philosophies. NonStop is being surreptitiously enabled by some of the new industry trends and hardware designs. We will describe and demonstrate specific examples of this trend which completely frees the user to determine where the next NonStop application can reside and what new ways a NonStop can be leveraged. This is liberating, indeed!
